four days in the states

and I keep looking at people in places and willing them to be honduran, making spanish jokes that I don’t totally get.

the roads are quite frankly boring..I have yet to lean out of my window and lick the truck next to me, and no high-fives car to car either. the national sport is football, not futbol, and tortillas are scarce.

BUT

My coffee is good for the soul these days..a serious improvement. And I have a glorious new mix cd. And my camera from honduras is being developed right now. So it’s not such a bad thing to be here, warming up for christmas.

I started shooting with a beautiful Canon A-1 this past week, with a decent collection of lenses that make me giddy..even if the 300mm weighs half a ton. I swear, the camera sees better than I do!

SO excited for my first roll of film. Of course, I’m going to have to buy more..what’re some good films?

Today I was stuck in a long line of slow moving cars with the neighboring lane wide open. Frustrated I changed lanes and sped up. At the front of the line was a police car driving deliberately below the speed limit. Everyone was too scared of getting pulled over to pass him. He gave me a thumbs up as I passed. MLIA

There is a chill in my bones, a wind nipping at my nose and I have never felt so alive.

I’ve been driving with the windows down just to breathe in the winter air. It tastes clear and sharp today.

Fleet foxes and a warm scarf, a thermos of fresh-roasted coffee ground this morning, and a load of lyrical inspiration..today will be a good day.
